At Amber Job, we often say that an internship is the fastest way to discover who you really are. This week, we are featuring a truly inspiring story from the island of Kos, where one intern spent three months proving that the best version of yourself is usually found just outside your comfort zone.
By rotating between different resorts, our intern didn't just learn about hospitality—they mastered the art of adaptability.
For someone who grew up as the youngest in their family with little experience around children, stepping into a high-energy, family-oriented resort was a bold move.
Creative Leadership: Leading workshops and family games that brought guests together.
The Comfort Zone Breakthrough: Overcoming the initial fear of "looking silly" to embrace the fun! From dressing as a hotdog to leading the "Baby Shark" dance, our intern turned a moment of hesitation into their favorite part of the day.
Discovering New Passions: What started as a challenge ended in a surprise—a genuine love for working with children and creating magical moments for families.
The majority of the internship was spent at a more intimate hotel, focusing on sport-based guest engagement. Here, the pace changed from high-energy kids' play to professional fitness and competitive tournaments:
Diverse Portfolio: Leading everything from Aqua Gym and Stretching to Water Polo, Volleyball, and Tennis.
The Aqua Zumba Innovator: Despite a lifelong avoidance of dancing, our intern didn't just participate—they began choreographing their own Aqua Zumba routines!
Skill Building: Learning the ropes of Boccia, Darts, and Mini Golf from experienced teammates, proving that a willing heart is the best tool for learning.
Evening entertainment requires more than just a smile; it requires coordination and technical savvy. Our intern became a "jack-of-all-trades" when the sun went down:
Event Logistics: Setting up professional equipment and managing the DJ booth.
Guest Relations: Promoting events, managing karaoke requests, and selling bingo tickets—all while ensuring every guest felt like a VIP.
The Confidence Boost: Constant interaction with international guests helped our intern refine their communication skills and develop a thick skin, learning to prioritize guest happiness over self-consciousness.
This wasn't just a summer job; it was a journey of self-discovery. By switching between different hotel environments, our intern gained a 360-degree view of the entertainment industry.
"This experience helped me learn a lot about myself and others. I gained so many new skills and tapped into my creativity. It was a huge personal growth opportunity, and I’d do it again in a heartbeat!"
This journey proves that courage is a muscle. Whether it’s leading a fitness class or dancing in a costume, every "scary" moment is an opportunity to grow. Our intern leaves Kos with a boosted confidence, a creative mindset, and a professional toolkit that will serve them in any career they choose.
